• CPCCCM2012 : Work safely at heights (Core)

  This unit outlines the skills and knowledge required to work safely on construction sites where there is a potential risk of falling from one level to another.

  While this unit does not cover the erection of scaffolds or work platforms, it does include the ability to identify and report common faults in scaffold or work platform systems.

  Work at heights is a critical aspect of various construction activities, including new builds, renovations, refurbishments, and maintenance work.

  Additionally, this unit is relevant to workers in other industries where managing the risks associated with falling people and objects from heights is necessary.

• CPCCDE3016 : Identify hazards on demolition sites and apply risk management strategies (Core)

  This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to identify common hazards in demolition work, as well as potential undiscovered hazards that may arise during the course of demolition activities. It includes the ability to assess risks and implement risk management strategies in line with compliance and workplace requirements.

  It is designed to support the induction process for specialist demolition workers before commencing work on site.

  Please note, this unit does not replace the completion of construction work health and safety (WHS) units.

• CPCCDE3017 : Select and use hand tools and equipment for demolition tasks (Core)

  This unit of competency outlines the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively select and use hand tools and equipment to complete a variety of demolition tasks.

  It covers the removal of fixtures and fittings, ceilings, walls, floors, and floor support systems; dismantling equipment; knocking down structures; and removing waste materials. These tasks are performed on-site for demolition work involving public, residential, commercial, and industrial structures, including chemical processing plants.

  The work may be carried out at ground level, at heights, over water, underwater, underground, or in confined spaces. It applies to both new construction sites and existing structures undergoing removal, renovation, or extension

• CPCCDE3018 : Select and use small plant and equipment for demolition tasks (Core)

  This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to select and use small plant and equipment safely and effectively to complete individual demolition tasks, such as breaking concrete, stripping out interior of buildings, pulling down walls and separating waste for recycling.

  The unit applies to workers performing on-site specialist demolition work using powered small plant and equipment on public, residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

• CPCCDE3019 : Demolish small buildings and structures using hand tools and small plant and equipment (Core)

  This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively select and use hand tools, small plant, and equipment for the demolition of small buildings and structures. It covers manual demolition processes, including dismantling or demolishing and removing materials and components from buildings or structures using only hand tools and small plant and equipment.

  The unit applies to workers carrying out on-site specialist demolition tasks using powered small plant and equipment across public, residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

• CPCCDE3020 : Select and use tools and equipment for hot work in the demolition industry (Core)

  This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to cut materials using processes that generate a heat source, which could potentially cause an ignition. It covers the safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment used for hazardous demolition hot work.

  The unit includes the safe on-site operation and maintenance of tools and equipment involved in hazardous demolition hot work.

  Please note, hot work permits and licenses for operating specialised hot-work equipment may be required in different states and territories.

• CPCCDE3027 : Read and interpret demolition site plans and drawings (Core)

  This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to read and interpret demolition site plans and drawings relevant to demolition operations.

  It covers identifying and understanding different types of demolition site plans and their functions, recognising commonly used symbols and abbreviations, identifying key features and specifications on demolition site plans and drawings, and comprehending job specifications.

  This unit applies to workers in the demolition industry and involves working under supervision within a team environment.

• CPCCOM1015 : Carry out measurements and calculations (Core)

  This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to undertake basic measurements and calculations to determine task and material requirements within a construction work environment.

  Individuals working at this level are expected to complete tasks assigned to them under supervision, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in their measurements and calculations.

• CPCCWHS2001 : Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry (Core)

  This unit specifies the outcomes required to implement work health and safety (WHS) requirements through safe work practices across all on-site or off-site construction workplaces.

  It involves performing work in a safe manner by being aware of risks and work requirements, and planning and executing safe work practices with a focus on both personal safety and the safety of others.

  The unit addresses essential WHS requirements needed to carry out work tasks within any sector of the construction industry. It covers the identification of hazardous materials, including asbestos, and ensures compliance with legislated safety practices. Please note, the removal of asbestos is not included within this unit as it is classified as a licensed activity.

• TLID1001 : Shift materials safely using manual handling methods (Core)

  This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to safely shift loads using manual handling methods. Work must be carried out in compliance with the relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations regarding the manual handling and movement of loads.

  It includes assessing the risks associated with relocating the load, planning the relocation process, and executing the relocation in line with the plan.

  Work is performed under some supervision, typically within a team environment.

• TLID2003 : Handle dangerous goods/hazardous substances (Core)

  This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to handle dangerous goods and hazardous substances in accordance with relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations within the transport and logistics industry.

  It includes identifying the requirements for working with dangerous goods and/or hazardous substances, confirming site incident procedures, and selecting appropriate handling techniques.

  Work is performed under general supervision.

• RIIRIS2023 : Respond to site-based spills (Elective A)

  This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to respond to site-based spills in the resources and infrastructure industries.

  It applies to individuals working in operational roles. They typically work under supervision to carry out a defined range of tasks involving established routines and procedures, and take responsibility for the quality of their work outcomes.

• RIIWHS202E : Enter and work in confined spaces (Elective A)

  This unit outlines the skills and knowledge required to safely enter and work in confined spaces within the resources and infrastructure industries.

  It is designed for individuals working in operational roles who typically work under supervision. These workers follow established routines and procedures, taking responsibility for ensuring the quality of their work outcomes while managing the risks associated with confined space environments.

• CPCCDE3014 : Remove non-friable asbestos (Elective A)

  This unit of competency specifies the required outcomes for removing non-friable asbestos-containing material (ACM).

  It covers the preparation, containment, and removal of non-friable ACM, along with the necessary knowledge of decontamination and disposal procedures.

  Site locations can include real workplaces or simulated environments, such as domestic or commercial premises, demolition sites, new construction sites, or existing structures being renovated, extended, restored, or maintained. Project sites may also include ships and soils.

  According to the model work health and safety (WHS) regulations and the Code of Practice: How to safely remove asbestos (2018), workers must hold certification for the specific class of licensed asbestos removal work they will be undertaking. Successful completion of this unit qualifies individuals for non-friable (Class B) asbestos removal.

  National occupational licenses are required, and this unit is mandatory for workers removing more than ten square metres of non-friable ACM.

  Candidates should consult with relevant state and territory regulatory authorities to confirm specific licensing requirements for non-friable ACM removal in their jurisdiction.

• RIIMPO320F : Conduct civil construction excavator operations (Elective B)

  For safe and competent equipment handling, this unit should be undertaken alongside or in conjunction with RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant, or its equivalent, to ensure full capability in loading and unloading operations.

• CPCCDE3026 : Operate excavators at ground level to demolish building elements (Elective B)

• CPCCDE3023 : Operate skid steer loaders at ground level on demolition sites (Elective B)

It covers planning and preparation, conducting pre-operational checks on the machine, preparing a site for demolition activities, and removing demolition debris.

  The unit also includes selecting, removing, and fitting loader attachments, removing demolition materials and waste, relocating skid steer loaders, and performing machine operator maintenance.

• CPCCOM2001 : Read and interpret plans and specifications (Other Elective)

  This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to read and interpret plans and specifications relevant to construction operations at a basic level.
  The unit is suitable for individuals with basic skills and knowledge who are undertaking routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers.

• RIIWHS204E : Work safely at heights (Other Elective)

  This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights within the resources and infrastructure industries.

  It is intended for individuals working in operational roles, who typically carry out tasks under supervision. These workers follow well-defined procedures and routines, ensuring the quality of their work outcomes while adhering to safety protocols when working at heights.

• RIIRTM203E : Work as a safety observer/spotter (Other Elective)

  This unit provides the essential skills and knowledge needed to work safely as a safety observer/spotter within civil construction. You’ll learn how to identify and manage worksite hazards, establish exclusion zones, and observe work activities to ensure the safety of the environment.

  Designed for individuals working in operational roles, this unit is delivered under supervision, with you taking responsibility for carrying out a range of prescribed functions following established routines and procedures. You will also ensure the quality of your work outcomes while maintaining a safe work environment.
